Raglan Jaunt

I start with the crop to emphasize the subject and to position it better (using the law of thirds as a basic guide).
Then I adjust the colour, tone and contrast to personal preference.

Yeah. The starting shot for the day.

Minimal cropping etc.
Bottle one third in from the right.

Bridge Jumper

Cropping allowed zooming in and better emphasis on jumper.
Boy cropped to one third from the left and to get boy facing in to the frame.
Note that the water colour is much flatter here.

Glider

Colour adjustment made sky bluer, making the glider pop out.
Glider cropped to one third from the bottom and positioned more to the left so it flies into the frame not out of it.
Tone adjustment made bottom of wings stand out clearer.

Big Bird

You get the point about cropping now... closer and law of thirds.
Bird facing into the picture frame.
Contrast makes sand stand out more.

 Coming in for Landing

You see how the crop focuses the subjects much better and removing surrounding distractions.
The top bird's wings also follow law of thirds.

 Gnarly Scooter

Cropped in to subject and placed law of thirds from the left.
Note stronger colours after adjustment.

  1. My Fave is "Coming in for Landing". I was pleased with the timing to get two birds almost landing together with wings spread.

  2. If I was going to do a photoshop job on any of these photos I would change the sky colour on "Gnarly Scooter" as the sky is over exposed and washed out. A nice strong blue sky would be better and would better contrast against the boy's left arm.

  3. Oh I do like them, all better than mine.
Coke bottle - better background, reminds me I need to check everything before I push that button.
Jumper - what a great shot, I would have never got that one, had to be on the bridge and looking over a bit - shudder - but I love it.
Glider - did you alter the colour of the sky? So crisp.
Birds - big bird - nice, but the gulls - amazing - think I would like to put this one in a frame. It is so good, and I helped by throwing shells
Scooter - yeah go ahead and alter, I will prob end up having a play with photo shop occasionally too.
thanks for the nice comments, but like yours better, always do ...
feel proud of mine then look at yours and think oh :-(
